[PGR_PA_r8] Facebook Code SCAM

Fellow PGR,
  I want to pass along a Public Service Announcement about a rash of new
SCAMs floating around.  This is what occurred with a PGR member here in PA
...

"OK friends here’s the     SCAM      that got me !!!!!!

I got an instant message from a friend, at least that’s what I believed.

It was their account profile and all. They said they got a new phone and
needed me to send a code that was going to come to my phone. What I failed
to recognize was they didn’t have my phone number and needed it. And a
friend of mine can access my profile information and see my phone number,
the public can’t do the same.  Anyway, I received a code, copied it, and
pasted it to the Messenger account that I thought was my friends for them.
A few seconds later my Messenger account shut down and asked for my
password and my Facebook account was already shut down also. I immediately
turn my iPhone and iPad off at the direction of my wife. It turns out
that’s the same scam her guitar instructor fell for last week or the week
before and they emptied her bank account of $4000.
I believe all is well now since we changed my passwords and nothing looks
out of sorts.

In the years that I’ve had Apple products I’ve never had to worry about
being hacked or getting viruses, etc. etc. this however required me to key
in information. Something I rarely if ever have done."

  Marcy Sorensen, our Veteran Liaison-West, almost got swallowed up in this
scam, but she contacted the individual's wife to verify before clicking any
link or accepting any code.

  They are using the code you'd receive to reset *YOUR*  password to
*your* Facebook
and Messenger and get all of the information from messages you sent and
received.  VERIFY anything anyone asks you for online ... every time, it
never hurts you.
