*The Patriot Guard Riders have been invited by the family of Capt. Arthur
Thomas "Tom" Cooper, U.S. Navy Veteran, to stand in silent honor by Flag
Line at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies. ** Arthur Thomas "Tom"
Cooper proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy retiring after 32 years
with the rank of Captain. "Tom" was a highly accomplished ship handler as
well as a professional communicator. Tom served as the Deputy J6 and the J6
at the U.S. European Command responsible for overseeing U.S. military
communications in Europe and Africa. He served as the Commanding Officer of
the guided missile destroyer USS MacDonough (DDG-39) in Desert Storm and
Desert Shield. "Tom" also served in other missile cruisers and destroyers
including the USS Stanley, the USS Mississippi, the USS Dale, the USS
Little Rock. the USS Springfield and the USS Farragut. Overseas assignments
were in Morocco, Italy, Guam, Germany and Belgium. "Tom" was instrumental
in significantly improving and modernizing the U.S. Navy Communications for
ships and shore stations. Capt. Cooper was awarded Meritorious Service
Medal (2), Overseas Service Ribbon (8), National Defense Service Medal (2),
Navy Achievement Medal (2), Coast Guard Special OPs Ribbon, Meritorious
Unit Commendation (2), and the Battle "E" Ribbon (5).*



*After retiring from the U.S. Navy, "Tom" worked for NATO directly as
Executive Coordinator for NATO C3. He joined CISCO as a Defense Initiative
Manager, retiring in 2006. "Tom" served our country with honor, it's now
our turn to stand and honor him.*
