As Patriot Guard Members both new to the organization and those who have
been around for some time, sometimes we all need reminders of *Mission
Etiquette on a flag line.: Here is a reminder for all.*

*Our Ride Captains in Charge (RCIC) have an important responsibility to
make sure all runs smoothly and respectfully. They lead by example and ask
all members to follow some simple suggestions. Thank you*

Displaying Respect for our fallen heroes and their families also means that
we are respectful of the facilities we visit and we are sensitive to our
appearance as to what the family and mourners see. Some general
guidelines follow:

1: OFFENSIVE CLOTHING: Articles of clothing that may have graphics on them
which the family or mourners may find offensive should be covered by other
articles of clothing or worn inside out. Vests and jackets that may
have offensive patches on should have them covered with tape until after
the mission. Clean and presentable clothing should be worn in respect to
the fallen and the family.

2. BEHAVIOR: Remember why we are there. Participants are encouraged to
socialize at the staging area or at breaks. We should be mindful of why we
are there at ALL times. Always show respect for the fallen and
their family. Voices carry so please refrain from chatter while on the
flag line, especially when close to the doorway of the facility.

3. SMOKING: Smoking and vaping should NEVER occur on the flag line. If at
all possible, a designated smoking area should be designated prior to the
mission and with PERMISSION from the facility management. Cigarette butts
should be disposed of properly and not thrown on the ground.

4. CELL PHONES, SMART WATCHES AND PAGERS: Please place all cell phones,
smart watches and pagers on silent or leave them on our bike or in your
vehicles throughout the mission. If you MUST take or make a call, please
step out of the flag line and move to an area where your conversation will
not be heard. Again, it is all about respect.

5. CHILDREN: If you bring children to the mission, please make sure they
realize this is a respectful mission. Encourage them to stand the flag line
alongside you with a flag. Running around or disturbing the facility would
not be acceptable.

6. DRINKING: The consumption of alcoholic beverages before and during a
PGRPA sanctioned mission is not allowed. Non-alcoholic beverages may be
kept beside you on a flag line so you can stay hydrated during the mission.

7.TRASH: Remember that we are guests of the facility. Trash should be
disposed of in proper containers if available or gathered up and taken with
you when you leave.

8.EARLY DEPARTURE FROM A MISSION: If you must leave a mission early,
please let the RCIC know. We thank you for your participation and we
realize that sometimes you can only stand for part of the mission. Please
be respectful when leaving, easy on the throttle as loud pipes can disturb
the funeral service.

THE KEY HERE IS COMMON SENSE AND RESPECT. Thank you ALL for what you do
for the veterans and first responders. We realize you cannot do all the
missions but the families are so grateful for the time we spend honoring
their loved ones. Encouraging others to join the PGRPA should be ongoing so
there will ALWAYS be someone there to stand in silent respect.

Thank you,
Steve Vassar
